What a beautiful time of year ,warm days and cooler nights,perfect to stay in and cook with fresh local produce

Or walk to your nearest favourite Café or Restaurant
we are blessed there are so many good ones in the area

this week I have shared with you my favourite local brekkie places

Whats In season

Apples,Bananas, Custard apples, Quince, Grapes, Persimmon, Grapes (wine and table grapes)lemons,limes plus Olives, Beans, Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Cabbage, Capsicum, Cauliflower, Celery, Chinese Cabbage, Cucumber, Eggplant, Leeks, Lettuce, Parsley, Peas, Snow Peas, Sugar Snaps, Mushrooms, Pumpkin, Shallots, Silverbeet, Spinach, Squash, Tomatoes and Zucchini



Young Moffadale wine entrepeneur Alex Brydges at Bridgeman downs winery is having a dinner for 150 odd in a huge marquee in the vineyard on Sat 16th May
if you need a break may i suggest making a weekend of it ,Local coffee guru Dean Merlo will be showing all the art of making a great coffee on the sunday morning ,me thinks many coffees or boroccas maybe needed

Michael Rutherford and Todd Rumble are back at what was formerly Girder now sporting a new name 'Claret House
I am very excited these guys were at Girder when it originally opened and it was a hot spot for locals.
Dan Cossart will be in the kitchen so sure to be worth a walk down to try his food, there will be some more substantial meals for those who need more than yummy bar fare….

Jason Peppler former chef at Isis which won best restaurant before closing, and had a strong following is now at Confit in what was the Tisane site on Doggett Street
yet to try...look forward to hearing feed back on this....



Best Brekkie Spots

Au Cirque on Brunswick st Newfarm. Everything awesome on the menu and coffee always great!
Christophe and Giselle took over this iconic cafe from Sarah and Spock and have managed to keep the high standard of food and service ,well done guys

Loaded larder on Moray st .Rocks at brekkie and lunch i must make special mention staff are always on the ball ,with prompt service and yes a smile...

Chouquette on Barker st .Always great for a quickie on the way to work...try the torsade with a coffee

Vue on Merthry rd . a winner for me and friends with food and service always paramount and most consistent awesome coffee.

North shore Riverside Café Hamilton is a favourite spot of mine sometimes on the weekend friends and i cycle from newfarm along river out to portside (only have to go on the road for a bit ) after a sticky beak at Portside we cycle past cruise ship terminal due east where you will eventually come to park and café
coffee not great but food always good and such a pleasant spot......



Sally from Taste Trekkers foodie treks take the mystery out of Asian food stores and there products .
These guided tours are a great way of familiarising yourself with different products and shops to take your cooking to the next level
or just for a great couple of hours out. All treks are inclusive of a delicious lunch at the end of the tour with a goodie bag
